How Do We Pay for These Projects?

Counties and cities often use “general obligation bonds” to pay for capital improvement projects like roads, parks, and public facilities. These bonds must be approved by voters in a general election.

The Caldwell County Commissioners Court has until Monday, August 19 to decide whether to put some — or all — of these projects on the ballot for the November 5 election.

If commissioners put these projects on the ballot and they are approved by voters, bonds would be sold to investors and backed by the full faith and credit of Caldwell County’s excellent AA- bond rating. General obligation bonds are paid off using county property taxes.
